Steph Dowse - relationship expert on New Zealand’s Married at First Sight chats all things love and relationships

April 29, 2022

Steph Dowse is a counsellor and therapist with more than 25 years of experience in areas of mental health (psychiatry), trauma, addictions, sexuality, adoption, family therapy, couples counselling, workplace burnout and relationships, critical incident debriefing and adolescent struggles. She is known for her work as a relationship expert on New Zealand's Married at First Sight and is an avid believer that a person's ability to live in the present, rather than the past or future, is the key to a harmonious life.

When not at work, she loves hiking in the bush, cooking healthy food and finding new ways to lie on the couch without spilling a cup of tea.

Things we talk about:

  • Relationships and why they are so complicated
  • Some of the most common myths about what a "great" relationship "should" look like
  • Monogamy vs polyamory? Does or can it work in the long-term, or is it a call for help from relationships that have run their course
  • Is there such a thing as "the right people at the wrong time"
  • Navigating the dating world and how to find a "good catch"
